Shabnum Ahmed
Founder & Director of Mind of Mine
Shabnum Ahmed is the Founder and Director of Mind of Mine, and a BACP Senior Accredited Integrative Counsellor, Psychotherapist, and Clinical Supervisor. With extensive clinical experience, she has worked therapeutically with adults, couples, families, children, and young people across diverse contexts, offering a depth and breadth of practice that is both compassionate and highly skilled. She has experience working in the private sector, public sector, primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities.
Her therapeutic approach is shaped by rigorous academic training, years of professional expertise, and her own lived experience. Shabnum specialises in working with themes of the immigrant and expatriate journey, transgenerational trauma, attachment dynamics, and the nuanced exploration of identity and belonging. Central to her practice is the belief that while our histories profoundly influence us, they need not define us. Through therapy, she helps individuals transform inherited patterns and personal struggles into opportunities for growth, freedom, and meaningful wellbeing.
Beyond her clinical practice, Shabnum is an active voice in shaping the profession. She also works for the board of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), where she supports practitioners and organisations across the UK by offering guidance on complex ethical dilemmas, contributing to national frameworks, and presenting at conferences. She also writes for Therapy Today and serves as a member of the National Counselling Society Consultant Clinical Supervisory Board, further extending her expertise to the training, development, and supervision of fellow professionals.
At the heart of her work lies a profound commitment to culturally competent, intersectional, and ethically grounded care. Shabnum is dedicated to creating a therapeutic space where clients feel deeply seen, heard, and supported as they navigate the complexities of their unique journeys. Her work is about more than resolving difficulties it is about fostering clarity, resilience, and self-discovery, and ultimately empowering individuals and families to thrive across generations and communities.
